Building the Memorial

There are many photos in the foPPA Archives regarding the building of the PPA Memorial, and we plan to bring them to you in due course. Meanwhile, here are two of the original design sketches, as submitted for approval to the planning committee of the National Memorial Arboretum in 2007 - note that the Memorial itself was orginally envisaged as a single block of local granite or Italian marble. The hedging's orientation was also eventually rotated so that the top-left arm of the Astrolabe shape pointed North, making it a pefect fit for its location in the Allied Special Forces Grove. It was designed to be easily and recognisably seen from satellite photos.
