Notes:
  1. These notes are not combined with clickable reference numbers in the body of the Roll of Honour text as this would detract from its dignity.
  2. Some minor discrepancies are known to exist between PPA records and Commonwealth War Graves Commission inscriptions, and are being investigated by foPPA. All dates shown are from either PPA personnel records or the PPA War Diary.
  3. Fifteen members of PPA are commemorated in War Cemeteries and on Memorials maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in Italy, Austria and England. However, only twelve of them are included in the PPA Roll of Honour on the PPA Memorial because they all died while they were members of PPA. See War Cemeteries and Memorials for more details.
  4. Lieutenant McCallum is also commemorated in the St Andrew's Presbyterian Church (otherwise known as "the City Church" or "the Scots Church"), which is situated in central Buenos Aires at Avenida Belgrano 579. A website about British Settlers in Argentina shows his memorial inscription.
  5. Privates Mackman and Watkins each died five months after they left PPA and Signalman McCulloch died nine months after PPA was disbanded, but their details are also included here below the PPA Roll of Honour.
Questions:
  • Q1. Driver Gaskell and Lieutenant MacGillivray were both lost on HMS Abdiel in Taranto harbour. Why is Driver Gaskell commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial and not on the Cassino Memorial alongside Lieutenant MacGillivray?
